Why is this guy willing to make an international call?
OK, I never thought I would be in this kind of situation, but here’s the story. I signed up for an online dating service just for the hell of it and never thought twice about meeting a normal guy. A couple of weeks ago, he and I started exchanging emails almost daily and I could tell that we clicked -online atleast. He wanted to call me after the first couple of emails but here’s the catch – I just left my home in the US to spend a year overseas teaching English. He told me that he was disappointed since he was "so anxious to talk to me". Afterwards, we started IMing each other and now he brought up calling me again – this time, making an overseas phone call! I still have my guard up, but we’ve had some long IM sessions and we still don’t get tired of talking to each other.
He says he "isn’t expecting much", but that "having a good conversation" would be cool enough for him. Whaat? Wouldn’t you have to be pretty serious enough to make an international phone call to a girl? Guys?

if he is ringing you through skype on his computer using headphones & microphone it’s only going to cost him about 2cents a min. i met my guy through a chat room, he’s in usa & i’m in australia. we have been talking for 7 months now & i click with him more than anyone in my life.he started ringing me 1st & i’m glad i took the chance. i’m hoping for more in the future & will be going to visit him in september. take a chance, talking on the phone is totally different to IM . you might find you click more or not. only one way to find out. good luck.
I don’t think making international calls is that serious. I have done a ton of it. but from how you explain, he does seem like he is interested in you, enough. Take it as a nice show of his interest but i wouldn’t propose to a girl just because she made an international call.
Ask yourself what you want.
He obviously has interest in you enough to want to get in touch with you. And you obviously have an interest in him or else you would have ditched him a long time ago right? Think 10 steps ahead. Can you picture yourself finally meeting this guy in person?
If so give the situation a chance, it may even bring the two of you closer together. If that’s what you want.
hmmm yes and no, if u having anive conversation for a long time, its ok to spend some penny, but mey b he is moving towards getting serious, keep ur gurads on and if u really want to take my opinion, the more u talk to him, u gonna get serious too, inspite of all the guards, believe me, i have been there, not that it is bad or something, but it depends, if u ready for along distance relationship, then continue, because thethings which u have told, it seems almost same story as mine, i will agin say not that it is bad, but u need hell lot of patience for along distance realtionship to sustain, all the best
this guy doesnt care about his phone bill so hes got cash and thats what women subconsiously want in a guy or maybe your low self esteem keeps you from wanting an actual social exchange
Keep your guards up, then….till you feel comfortable enough to let it down.
As for making international calls, I wouldn’t think it’s a big issue. Besides, there are lots of direct call programmes that make calls quite affordable -sometimes even cheaper than calling local!
In the mean time, try not to think too much. Enjoy the companionship and good friendship you’re having now. Take it easy, girl.
You can make phone calls pretty cheaply through most phone services now. But let’s say that it costs 25 cents a minute, and he talks to you for an hour. That’s still only $15, a lot less than taking a girl out for dinner. Why are you hung up on how much this will cost? Don’t you think that, from his point of view, it’s worth it? It sounds like you have low self-esteem.
