Who thinks its distasteful that……..?
…some Filipinos in here consistently use the beauty of Filipino women in the Philippines (along with the usual friendly people, good shopping/beaches) as a carrot to lure or entice foreign men to visit the country? I know those who it are just doing their part to promote tourism in their own land, so Is it just me who thinks this is inappropriate and possible leading to endangerment of Filipinas?
Would an American, Englishman, Aussie, Korean, etc. ever do the same thing? Probably not–because they want to avoid giving the wrong impression to potential visitors to their respective countries.
if you know something about asian cultures, esp. Filipinos, you would noticed that most Filipino men and women have no problem explicitly and unsubtly showcasing its women’s positive in a manner similar to an Internet dating service adverstisement. Examples include frequent use of these adjectives: loyal, simple, hardworking faithful, slim, marriage-minded, seeking foreigners, etc. I don’t know of any industrialized nation’s tourism service promoting these aspects of their women, in so many words.
Filipino women currently suffer from an unfair characterization in the western world as cheap tawdry desperate hookers–much more so than any other developed nation and even some of its neighboring countries. I attribute that to the mindless "marketing" of these women by their own countrymen as subservient, passive individuals who will do anything to please a wealthy foreigner. Of course its not true–but that is the perception.
Regarding naked women found on the beaches of Spain and Europe, it is absolutely not the same. They choose to be naked not to attract men around them but as an expression of individuality and their feminity. These women are not considered by others to have a hidden agenda to snag a man to marry under duress.
That’s the difference.
I have lived in the Philippines and I am very well-versed and fluent in their culture and language, respectively.

However, the diatribe is quite long and tedious. And we should not let the passion take the better of us, and forget our spelling. And structure of the King’s English. For example, in the sentence ‘" I know those who it are just their" the construction is vague. Let’s proceed with "I know of those who are just doing their part", wouldn’t that be better? And then on the last para, "…. you would noticed", you used the past tense when it should be, thus: "…. you would notice".
Finally, I hope, "showcasing its women’s" should be rephrased "showcasing their women’s ". I think there is a word after positive. "…. showcasing their women’s positive side". Now, that does it.
So that the message gets across.

Your diatribe about Filipino women makes you sound like an idiot. Are you really there with $2.8 million to spend grudgingly or is the whole thing a farce? If you "have lived in the Philippines and are well-versed with its language and culture, " you must feel comfortable there. Otherwise, leave the country and culture that you seem to love to hate. You don’t have to live there. The Filipinos have their culture, like it or not. It’s the Filipino culture, not American, Aussie, Korean, etc, etc, ad. infinitum. (BTW, I am also an immigrant but I love my new country, warts and all.)
Stop preaching to the choir. Why don’t you do something about the homeless and poverty in the Philippines. Stop worrying about a petty subject like this. Its sad to see people sleeping in the streets with not other means to take care of themselves. Wake Up !!! and look at Metro Manila it’s a vast wasteland of poverty.
I think it’s the fault of some Filipinas who sell themselves in the Internet. And the misconception of most foreigners regarding our women are caused by the lewd pictures and poses they posted in many websites. Even in some Internet cafes (not in mine), you see some women baring their all in front of webcams, enticing foreign men to come with a promise of a taste of themselves. Ugh! These kind of women lower the standards of all Filipinas.
You are right – we promoted the wrong impressions. Maybe because we feel so inferior compared to other countries; we feel the beauty of our women cannot compare to that of other nationalities, the reason why we often point out the outward appearances of our women – like saying "hey! we too have our own beautiful women, look and see for yourself". And we know we have an edge over the others because of our skin color, it’s unique.
Maybe we need to rectify this error but how?
